Before the first Bowen session there is a consultation regarding your symptoms. I will ask you how long you have had these symptoms, what treatments you have tried before, and if you have had any previous trauma, for example accidents or operations.
In the case of acute injuries one or two treatments should be enough to restore you to your original healthy state. The ideal time for a Bowtech session is immediately after the injury. That way, your body can overcome the trauma before it begins to compensate for it.
In the case of chronic health problems you might need several weeks of treatment.
A Bowen treatment can be done through lightweight , comfortable, preferably cotton clothing or directly on your skin (in this case be prepared to be worked on in your underclothes under sheets or blankets for modesty and comfort).
A Bowen session will typically last from 30 minutes to 1 hour (in most cases it is bout 50 minutes long).
During the treatment in most cases you lie on your back or your stomach or you sit as comfortably as possible.
A Bowen treatment consists of sequences of small moves, each at a specific site on the body
Between the sequences of moves there are short intervals, usually about 2 minutes however there are certain moves in which the nervous system needs more time to integrate and respond to the treatment.
Between 2 sessions there is a 5 to 10 day break because the body is continuing to respond to the Bowen therapy over several days following the treatment.
It is important to drink at least 1.5-2 litres of water every day during the Bowen procedure and even a few days before the first session to ensure that the fascia is well hydrated.
Many people choose to have monthly or quarterly maintenance sessions once their initial complaints are addressed.
